The new year brought a new millionaire to Iowa, according to Iowa Lottery officials on Monday. The Powerball win will go customer bought a ticket at the North Linn Avenue Casey’s convenience store in New Hampton.
Monday’s Iowa Powerball winning numbers were 14-17-18-21-27 and Powerball 9. The Power Play option was 2. Nationally, no one matched all six numbers to win the jackpot.
New Hampton and its 2022 lotto winner are 40 miles north on US Highway 63 from the biggest Powerball win of 2021. Anton Garrett of Waterloo also claimed a $2 million prize on May 10 last year.
Power Play option doubled Iowa Powerball win
The New Hampton ticket came within one number of claiming the jackpot.
The lucky New Hampton ticket matched the first five numbers but missed Monday’s $26.8 million grand prize when the Powerball didn’t match. A five-for-five white-ball match is still good for $1 million, however.
Whoever bought the ticket added the Power Play option to the purchase, however. That multiplied the prize at the Match 5 level to $2 million. Iowa Lottery officials said the New Hampton ticket was the only one in the country to win a $2 million prize in Monday’s drawing.
Powerball is on a slow build, by the way. The game held its most recent drawing Wednesday night, and no tickets hit the jackpot. The Powerball numbers were 12–21–22–30–33 and Powerball 24. The estimated jackpot for Saturday’s drawing is $48 million.
