The 2019-20 NHL season is about to restart, and the Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild will be on the ice. That could mean free wagers for Iowa sports bettors.
DraftKings Sportsbook is offering $5 in bonus bets for each goal scored by bettors’ choice of a team in the qualifying round. That could make a series win even sweeter.
DraftKings promo for Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild series
The terms of the DraftKings promotion are pretty simple.
Just place a wager of at least $50 on Chicago, Minnesota, or any of the other 14 participating NHL teams to win their best-of-five qualifying round series on DraftKings Sportsbook.
For every goal the team you bet on to win the series scores, the sportsbook will give you a $5 free wager. If the team you staked wins its series, you’ll get your winnings from that bet as well.
At DraftKings, the Blackhawks are a +135 underdog against the Edmonton Oilers right now. Currently, the Wild are at +100 against the Vancouver Canucks.
Although you can wager on as many of the eight series as you wish, you can only use the promo on one of the markets. The promotion is only available on bets placed before the games begin on Saturday, Aug. 1.
For customers new to DraftKings in Iowa, you’ll have to visit one of the Wild Rose casinos in Emmetsburg, Clinton or Jefferson to complete your account registration.
If betting on the series moneyline isn’t your style, DraftKings has other options. All the action starts Saturday afternoon.
Other markets for Chicago-Edmonton and Minnesota-Vancouver
The Blackhawks restart their season at 3 p.m. EST on Saturday.
Chicago is a +130 underdog, with a line of +1.5 (-205) on the spread. The over/under on total goals for the game is six, with the better action of -107 on the over.
Minnesota plays its first game as the nightcap on Aug. 2. The 10:30 p.m. EST start has the Wild as a +102 underdog. The Minnesota spread is also +1.5 goals, with the odds sitting at -278. The total goals line for that game is 5.5, with odds of +104 on the under.
There are props on both games as well. For example, the line on the Blackhawks winning the game without conceding a goal in regular time is +1,700.
The odds on the same market for the Wild are +1,400. DraftKings also has lines on how many games will be played in each series, the series score, and which team will score the most goals in the series.
Both Chicago and Minnesota will have their work cut out for them in their series. Vancouver and Edmonton ranked 10th and 11th, respectively, in total goals during the season.
While the Blackhawks had a pedestrian defense in terms of goals allowed, the Wild struggled in that area. Only nine teams allowed more goals during the regular season than did Minnesota.
When the puck drops this weekend, bettors will see whether those trends prove consistent. Clever bettors will be able to celebrate an extra $5 in site credit every time a puck crosses the crease.
