Royal Rumble Odds? Try The Free DraftKings Contest Instead

Royal Rumble

Plugging “Royal Rumble odds” into an internet search will get results, but you won’t find betting lines at any of Iowa’s 18 legal sportsbooks for good reason.

Pro wrestling bets — including wagers for this weekend’s big WWE event — aren’t legal in Iowa. Too many details are predetermined, so pro wrestling is considered a dubious destination for your betting money.

PlayIA is here to help you find safe sites with great offers to bet in Iowa. Here’s what WWE fans can do instead:

DraftKings IA sportsbook offers a free Royal Rumble pool play contest for registered visitors through its exclusive WWE partnership.

Can’t bet on Royal Rumble so stick with DraftKings free contest

As of Friday night, players have submitted about 45,000 entries for the $25,000 Royal Rumble prize pool. To play the free game, it helps to understand the 30-superstar men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches:

  • Both matches will start with two WWE superstars already in the ring.
  • Every 90 seconds a new participant comes out from backstage to enter the match.
  • A WWE superstar is eliminated when he or she is thrown over the top rope and hits the floor with both feet.
  • The “last wrestler standing” in each Royal Rumble match is the winner. They get a main-event WWE title shot at WrestleMania 38.

The free aspect of the DraftKings pool competition means that DK visitors can participate in states where legal sports betting is not yet available.

But, if you live in a DraftKings state like Iowa, the sportsbook does have some incentives for new customers. Some offers are even tailored to the NFL Playoff games on Sunday.

The WWE card for Saturday night

The 30-man Royal Rumble match and 30-woman Royal Rumble match give the WWE event its name, but rivalries and title bouts are a big part of the card, too.

  • WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley
  • Universal Champion Roman Reigns (Usos barred from ringside) vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins
  • Edge and Beth Phoenix vs. The Miz and Maryse
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Doudrop

With 24 hours left before the event, the WWE named 25 of its 30 men’s Royal Rumble participants. As one of the pool play questions suggests, Johnny Knoxville from the “Jackass” TV and movie franchise is participating.

The Rumble is known for some surprise entrants as well. The women’s match still has nine openings at last check.
