PGA Championship odds at Iowa sportsbooks
Betfred: Rory
At +1200, Rory McIlroy is the tournament favorite at Betfred Sportsbook in Iowa.
Bettors have drifted toward the four-time majors champion because of the length at South Carolina’s Ocean Course at Kiawah.
Jason Sylva, the program analyst at Betfred, said:
“The favorite this week is Rory, and he’s 11-to-1. We’re talking big payouts if you can catch a winner. With that said, it’s a huge field. And there’s a lot of guys playing, so it’s tough to do. But there’s been cases in recent weeks where guys that are close to 100-to-1 have cashed.”
Sylva expects windy conditions to add strokes on the course. The Ocean Course has the most seaside holes in North America.
“It’s going to be the longest course in major championship history at over 7,800 yards, so it seems to favor the longer hitters over the shorter drives from shorter hitters.”
Sylva sees an increased interest in golf among bettors:
“Betfred actually just finished up the Betfred British Masters — we’re the title sponsor for the British Masters. We even took action on that over here in the US. You see guys in betting on the European Tour. So yeah, the golf appetite is absolutely growing and we’re going to continue to add more markets and be creative there. We’ll try to offer things that others aren’t as the sport continues to grow — and as our book continues to grow.”
Sylva also recommends taking advantage of the outright market:
“The outright market is obviously fun. And with the prices, you can take a handful — two handfuls — of guys and still make money if you catch one of them. That’s a route you see a lot of guys take. They just take 10 golfers and they play them all the win. The shortest odds are 10- or 15-to-1, so if you catch one you cover all your bets, right? Then you can have a couple tickets on 60-to-1 guys, you know, 100-to-1 or whatever it may be.”
FanDuel: Jordan
Jordan Spieth (+1800) has never played the Ocean Course, but he is a top choice for FanDuel Iowa customers betting on the PGA Championship.
Kevin Hennessey, at FanDuel, gave the top three in the PGA Championship outright market:
By Bet Count | By Handle |
---|---|
Jordan Spieth (7%) | Jordan Spieth (10%) |
Victor Hovland (4%) +2200 | Xander Schauffele (6%) +2000 |
Justin Thomas (4%) +1600 | Justin Thomas (6%) |
The top two golfers by handle to lead after Thursday’s first round are:
Jordan Spieth (7%) +2200 |
Rory McIlroy (6%) +2600 |
