Live tournament poker is returning in a big way all over the country, post-pandemic.
Case in point: Later this week, the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) is making another stop on its busy calendar. This time, the tour is visiting the Silverado Franklin Hotel in Deadwood, SD, for the MSPT South Dakota State Poker Championship.
$1,100 Main Event features $100,000 guaranteed prize pool
The $1,100 buy-in, no-limit hold’em tournament takes place May 14-16. There are two Day 1 starting flights on Friday and Saturday, followed by a final Day 2 on Sunday.
The official MSPT trophy event features starting stacks of 20,000 chips, although players can receive a 5,000-chip add-on for $10. Levels last 40 minutes each throughout the tournament until heads-up when they change to a half-hour. Players can re-enter once per flight until the late registration period closes, meaning a maximum of four entries per person.
Satellites for the tournament have been running for nearly a month at Silverado hotel, and will continue the rest of the week. There are $65 satellites awarding entry into $260 satellites. The latter will send the top 20% of finishers into the Main Event.
It has been nearly a century-and-a-half since Wild Bill Hickok lost his life with aces and eights in a Deadwood saloon. The storied town continues to be a poker destination for many, with the MSPT having been to Silverado multiple times.
The last installment of the South Dakota State Poker Championship scheduled in early May 2020 had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2019, a $1,100 MSPT South Dakota event at the Silverado drew 258 entries to create a prize pool worth almost $250,000.
The Silverado most recently hosted a $1,100 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed event in late October 2020.
Mid-States Poker Tour back in business attracting large fields in 2021
After having to postpone many events during 2020, the Mid-States Poker Tour has been thriving so far in 2021.
Last weekend, the MSPT completed its most recent stop at the Sycuan Casino Resort in San Diego. There, the $1,100 Main Event attracted 676 entries to create a big $654,220 prize pool. Winner Alejandro Jauregui took away just over $140,000 for the win.
Prior to that, the MSPT visited Iowa at the Riverside Casino in late March. The $1,100 Main Event attracted an even bigger field of 862 entries to create an $834,672 prize pool. Daniel Sepiol won the event, claiming the first prize of nearly $163,000.
Following this weekend’s event in Deadwood, the tour will head west for events at The Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada, in June. In July, will come another visit to Riverside Casino & Golf Resort in Iowa for a $200,000 guaranteed Main Event.
