For Cyclones Fans, Will Tickets Sold In Vegas Stay In Vegas?

There are big, red “Buy Now” buttons for single-game football tickets on the UNLV website, but Iowa State Cyclones fans may need a Nevada connection if they want a good seat for the Iowa State-UNLV game in Las Vegas.

Cyclones fans should know:

  • UNLV season ticket holders get the first crack at additional single-game tickets for games and
  • Any leftover Iowa State tickets won’t be cheap.

The very late kickoff is 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Iowa State’s status as a preseason top 10 team and Las Vegas’ reputation of, well, being Vegas means ISU-UNLV tickets will be desert hot. UNLV has priced them accordingly.

Here’s what we mean:

  • End zone seats for UNLV’s visits by Eastern Washington, Utah State and San Jose State are $33 (higher level) to $38 (lower level). For Iowa State, it’s $121 regardless of which level.
  • Corner seats are $49 to $60 for the smaller schools but $165 for the Cyclones.
  • Lower-priority seats are $82 to $88 for half the schools on UNLV’s home schedule but $192 to $220 for the Iowa State game.
  • Higher-priority seats are $110 to $137 for the schools we mentioned, but $220 to $275 for the Cyclones.
  • Finally, VIP sections —  About $330 for the smaller schools ($385 for East Washington) to $512. That compares to the $522 and $622 range for the Iowa State game.

Hawaii and San Diego State get the “premium pricing” treatment as well, but not to the extent of the Iowa State game. To put it another way, Cyclones fans can expect to pay about $100 more than fans of other visiting schools, or about $200 to $300 more for the VIP seating.

CBS Sports Network will carry the game for folks who stay in Iowa.

Will UNLV’s Cyclones tickets even be available?

As we mentioned, UNLV’s season ticket holders will get the first crack at single-game tickets, and those seats went on sale Wednesday. As you read this, assume some UNLV fans are snapping up extra tickets for resale on the secondary market.

The general public can buy tickets to Iowa State-UNLV starting at noon Monday, July 19 — if any remain.

It’s rare for a major college football program to take on a road game against someone outside of the Power Five conferences. UNLV is a member of the Mountain West Conference. They finished last season with a 0-6 record.

Cyclones are a national championship contender

Las Vegas was going to be a tempting destination anyway, but Cyclones fans should have an outstanding team to follow on the road.

Iowa State reached the Big 12 title game for the first time a season ago. They went on to their first major bowl berth and picked up a 34-17 win over No. 25 Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. The team finished No. 9 in the final AP poll of the season.

The Cyclones return 10 starters on offense and nine starters on defense for the 2021 season. Eight players are on the preseason All-Big 12 team.

Beyond the usual suspects (Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State and Oklahoma), Iowa State has some of the nation’s best College Football Playoff odds.

Players received their Fiesta Bowl rings during an April 29 ceremony. Coach Matt Campbell (pictured above) told his team:

“There are so many people around here that made this possible. I couldn’t be prouder of you guys in how you represented this university.”

Campbell enters his sixth season with the Cyclones. The team hosts UNI and Iowa before their business trip to Vegas.
