YouTube-sensation-turned-boxer Jake Paul will clash with former UFC champion Tyron Woodley for the second time this year. Paul vs. Woodley II is a Showtime PPV event Saturday night.
Woodley, nicknamed “The Chosen One,” truly lived up to his name by stepping up and filling in for Paul’s originally-scheduled opponent Tommy Fury, the “U.K. Love Island” contestant and younger half-brother of heavyweight WBC champion Tyson Fury.
Woodley took the fight on only a couple of weeks’ notice after Fury pulled out due to a broken rib and chest infection.
How to watch Paul vs. Woodley II
- What: Paul vs. Woodley II
- When: 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18
- Where: Amalie Arena, Tampa
- TV: Showtime PPV ($59.99)
Paul and Woodley’s first matchup was in August, with Paul winning by split decision and Woodley landing the most notable punch of the night that knocked Paul back onto the ropes.
Now, both fighters get a chance to prove themselves against the other in Paul vs. Woodley II. Woodley is looking to avenge his loss. But Paul is looking to score a knockdown and finish the fight as he did neither in the first matchup. Paul has also announced that he will award Woodley an extra $500,000 if Woodley can knock him out.
Paul (4-0) is undefeated in boxing but has yet to fight a boxer (Fury would have been the first). He has knockout wins over MMA veteran Ben Askren, NBA veteran Nate Robinson and fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib.
Woodley (0-1 boxing, 19-7 MMA) is a former UFC welterweight champion known for his wrestling abilities as a Big 12 champion at the University of Missouri. He has notable UFC wins over Darren Till, Stephen Thompson and Robbie Lawler, but he hasn’t won a fight since losing the title belt in March 2019.

In the last fight, Paul proved he is able to go the distance and stayed competitive, peppering Woodley with jabs throughout the eight-round bout. Though he couldn’knock downwn or put Woodley away like he had done to his previous opponents, he did just enough work to run away with the split decision.
Woodley, like in his last few UFC fights, looked hesitant against Paul. He was slow on pulling the trigger and letting his hands fly, which he has been criticized for over the last few years and losses of his career. When Woodley was more aggressive is where he saw more success, including a heavy hand that sent Paul stumbling into the ropes.
If Paul wins Saturday night, it’s likely his team pursues a new date for the Tommy Fury fight but Paul has also continued to call out the likes of UFC superstar Nate Diaz. If Woodley wins, it would be a surprise if the two fighters didn’t round out their stories with a trilogy bout. Only time will tell after Saturday night.
Other bouts on the Paul vs Woodley II card
Aside from Paul vs Woodley II, there are a couple of other intriguing matchups on the Showtime Card in Tampa.
In the co-main event slot, the women’s unified-featherweight champion Amanda Serrano (41-1) moves up to lightweight to fight Miriam Gutierrez (14-1).
Serrano, a Puerto Rico native (Jake Paul lives in Puerto Rico) is also now signed to Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions and beat Yamileth Mercado in the co-main event on the last Paul vs Woodley card in August. Serrano, considered one of the greatest fighters in the history of women’s boxing, looks to score a win in the lightweight division to set her up to fight the undisputed lightweight champion and Irish star Katie Taylor. Gutierrez’s only loss came from Taylor last year.
Sportsbooks like Serrano in this key fight. Again, these odds could change as the weekend rolls on.
