World Cup 2022 Qualifying Odds: US Hosts Honduras In Frigid Temperatures

World Cup 2022 Qualifying

The US Men’s National Team (USMNT) is bringing its World Cup 2022 qualifying bid to within 125 miles of the Iowa border.

Honduras, with an average temperature of around 85 degrees year-round, will face the US in St. Paul, MN. The forecast in the Twin Cities will be … less than 85 when the teams face off in an outdoor stadium Wednesday.

Forecast high: 5 degrees. Forecast low: -10.

The USMNT hopes St. Paul’s freezer leads to Qatar’s oven later this year. The 2022 Fifa World Cup unfolds Nov. 21 to Dec. 18 in the Arabian Peninsula. The World Cup dates are late in the year because winters in the 90s are better than the summer averages that exceed 100 degrees.

How to watch World Cup 2022 qualifying

  • What: Honduras at US Men’s National Team
  • When: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2
  • Where: Allianz Field in St. Paul, MN
  • TV: FS1

The USMNT suffered a 2-0 loss to surprise CONCACAF leader Canada on Sunday. The Americans are tied for second with five wins, three ties and two losses (5-3-2). Honduras (0-2-7) is at the bottom of the eight-team table so it looks like they may be left out in the World Cup cold.

The top three teams from the CONCACAF region (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football) advance to the World Cup. A fourth-place team from CONCACAF faces a fourth-place team from Asia, the South Pacific or South America. The winner of that pairing also gets a ticket to Qatar.

The USMNT is a heavy favorite to collect three points in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Team US bettors in Iowa would have to risk $550-$675 for a $100 win. A $100 bet on Honduras would net anywhere between $1,200 and $2,000, depending on your sportsbook of choice in Iowa. As you can see, a correct bet on a draw carries a good payout as well.
