Casino at Q Dubuque
The near 30,000 square feet casino has been one of the city’s main attractions since 1985 when it opened under the name Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino. It was also known as Mystique before finally changing its name to Q Casino in 2017. The casino floor includes 1,000 video slots, various table games that include blackjack, roulette, craps, several variations of poker and a few electronic table games.
Even though it’s not the largest casino in Iowa, Q Casino competes with the best of them by featuring modern and fair games, comfortable seating and impeccable service.
While the games on the casino floor should be familiar, the dealers are more than happy to oblige if you need any assistance.
The casino is French-themed, commemorating the city’s French settlement history. It has a couple of permanent shows, such as the Cabaret and Encore Stage, which showcase the best local artists and musicians.
Q Casino runs frequent promotions that can land you massive jackpots, as well as dining and hotel discounts. All casino guests can also take part in the casino’s rewards program called Q Rewards.
The majority of games at Q Casino in Iowa are video slots. Q Casino currently stores nearly 1,000 video slot machines, adding new machines now and then. It’s safe to say that the casino has some of the most modern video slots in the area, as several slots feature double vertical curved screens, proving the ultimate immersive gameplay experience.
Depending on the size of your pockets, you can choose anything from over 700 penny slots to high limit slots with denominations ranging between $1 and $25.
If you’re a fan of video slots, you will immediately recognize well-known titles such as:
- Life of Luxury
- Wheel of Fortune
- Triple Diamond
Popular penny slots include:
- Quick Hits
- Lil’ Red
- Wild Ways
- China Shores
- Jackpot Factory
- Mystical Mermaids
- Bier Haus
The casino’s newest additions include Chinese-themed titles such as Lucky Wealth Cat, Gong Xi Fa Cai Ultra and Wu Dragon.
More than 20 high-limit slots are in the casino’s high-limit room. This is where you will find games that feature progressive jackpots like Sizzling 7’s Progressive, Triple Double Diamond, Double Red White & Blue and Jackpot Party.
You can be sure that all video slots are fair and RNG-tested. The casino’s official website even features photos of players who have hit jackpots of more than $25,000.
While the video slots take the main stage at Q Casino, the casino’s selection of table games doesn’t disappoint either.
There are nearly 20 tables that feature all of the classics such as blackjack, roulette and craps, all of which have their electronic version. Regrettably, Q Casino doesn’t have a dedicated live poker room on its premises, but poker fans can still enjoy playing against the dealers in several different variations of the game.
Here is a list of all table games that you can find on Q Casino’s floor:
- TriLux blackjack
- bonus bet blackjack
- Electronic blackjack
- Electronic craps
- Golden ball roulette
- Ultimate Texas Hold’em
- Mississippi Stud
- Face Up Pai Gow
- DJ Wild Stud poker
The table games at Q Casino are open from 9 a.m. until 2 a.m. daily.
Q Casino appreciates long-term customers and high-rollers, which is evident when looking at the rewards program.
Q Rewards are available to every guest of the casino older than 21. The program includes special promotions, birthday offers, hotel and restaurant discounts.
The way Q Rewards work is to earn loyalty points by playing the games at the casino. Every member starts at the “club” level, moving over to the “silver” and “gold” membership statuses when earning enough points.
You redeem your points for cash, free play, dining and merchandise.
Here are some of the benefits of taking part in Q Rewards:

Q Casino can’t fulfill that need if you want to find some live poker action. There isn’t a dedicated poker room in the casino, but you can enjoy a decent range of table poker games and play against the dealer.

Following the legalization of sports betting in Iowa, Q Casino has opened a sportsbook at the casino’s Q Sports Bar.
This 4,200-square-foot sports betting area features a total of 47 HDTVs and a 165-inch video wall. The Q Sports Bar has a great selection of beers on tap, making it an ideal place to enjoy games with your friends.

Q Casino History
Q Casino started as a greyhound racing track named Dubuque Greyhound Park in 1985, following the Pari-Mutuel Wagering Act passed by Iowa the year before.
Nine years later, the state passed another gambling law, allowing land-based casinos in Iowa to feature slot machines, which resulted in the renovation and renaming of the racing track in 1995 to Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino.
Another two renovations followed in 2005 and 2009. The former cost $33 million and saw the introduction of table games. The 2009 renovation cost $10 million and resulted in the renaming of the casino to Mystique. However, the casino was threatened by a trademark lawsuit from the SMSC’s Mystic Lake Casino in Minnesota, so it was rebranded once again to Q Casino in 2017.
